This bathroom wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t the best either. We have so many projects on the go because well, demo is free, but I needed a quick win mentally so I finally finished the mudding we started two years ago…
Before
If this house has done anything it’s solidified my hate for the colour blue.
The walls, the countertop…
Two of the four bedrooms were also blue, ceiling and all.
Oh and my office.
When we moved in we mudded some holes from shelves taken down, and it’s been like that for the last two years.
Update part one, the countertop.
February 2022 I put contact paper on this countertop and it’s held up amazingly well for being our main bathroom. I did a couple pieces coming down over the lip at the back with a seam right behind the faucet so it’s fairly hidden, then one long piece across the whole base to have a clean seam along the back.
If you were around on social while the laundry was downstairs, this is the same contact paper I wrapped an old door with to make a temporary countertop… And subsequently did the kitchen countertops, too.
We took the sink right out (by we I mean Steve), ran the large strip across, then cut along the hole. Once the sink was put back in, Steve siliconed around it and where the countertop meets the wall, which really polished it off.
Fast forward to June 2023…
Looking for a quick win I decided to hyperfocus on this for a week.
Beyond the warping of the top piece (you can see the left drawer isn’t closed), I actually loved the functionality of this vanity so I didn’t mind keeping it.
Also, vanities are expensive LOL.
I did hate the dark colour of it though, and while Steve didn’t want me to paint yet another room white, I didn’t want to commit to coloured walls so this was my compromise.
Everyone always says ‘it’s just paint’ but like paint is not cheap either, I’d rather have a bright clean space and accessorize with colour.
Apparently, my idea of ✨colour✨ in this house is white, black and shades of green or beige 😂 but it’s fine.

VANITY
Painted with Fusion Mineral Paint in Bayberry. If you’re local to Cobourg, I grabbed mine from Flipping Beautiful.
Did I have an existential crisis about this choice given my friendship with Oram Painting? 110%. Was I committed to making this look great and last for years? Absolutely not.
I am impressed with how easily it covered, and it has a great satiny finish. It has chipped around the top of those drawers that are affected by the warping which was to be expected, but other than that it looks great for how little f’s I had to give.
I also spray-painted the existing silver hardware.
MIRROR –
I grabbed this one from Homesense for $100. This or this are kind of similar.
LIGHT
Given the arch of the mirror I was picky about not wanting something too decorative to compete. I would have loved to have sconces on either side but space didn’t allow for that. This one is bright, the reviews said almost too bright but it’s good for a bathroom IMO!
WALLS – White Dove (of course) by Benjamin Moore
Again cheap and cheerful, I just did their Ben line in Eggshell. This has the perfect hint of creaminess that brightened up the floor’s slight beige tone.
I also opted to paint all the trim the same colour.
I do want to get some sort of fun bath mat (happy face?) or shower curtain like this one as this is the kids bathroom ultimately, but I haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet.
