It’s been a chaotic week, but I think today’s schpeal is a gooder 😂
And why do I think that, First name / friend? Because the last two weeks of Brainstorm Sessions have ALL ended up about social media content. And, I get it. Social media is a trip, and it does feel like it can make or break your business. ESPECIALLY if you’re doing the doom scrolling and comparison game…
So, I want to make a few key points right off the bat around the Meta beast:
A theme in each of the brainstorm sessions I’ve had around social lately is the need to dive into ideal clients. Who do you want to be working with? What kind of people are using your services? What problems do they have? Are you trying to get in front of moms of troubled teens in Calgary? Dog owners in California? Estate owners in rural Alberta?
What questions can you answer? How will your services change or improve their life? What’s the transformation?
There’s a lot of fluff and complicated jargon to social media, but there’s also a lot I’d probably tell you not to worry about in a Brainstorm Session.
For example, if you’re limited to serving clientele within certain city, stop trying to go viral. If you do dog walking services in southern Ontario, it doesn’t matter if you get 1m views from people in Kansas……
Baby steps:
I always say social media is honestly just trial and error.
Scale it back, focus on your ideal customers and what kind of transformations you can give them with your services.
I’ve also shared my Content Idea Brain Dump table with a few clients in our sessions, so if you want to see that there’s a video walk through here and you can download the template for yourself. I have this on a widget on my phone so if something pops into my head I can just dump the topic in so I don’t forget, and flesh it out more when I’m in the right headspace.
Another hack? I basically wrote this whole email via a voicenote while walking with Wesley LOL. (Then transcribed via Descript, no kickback here just sharing the wealth).
Anyway. For next week? Let’s dive into why social media is taking a backseat in my business at this point, and what I’m doing instead.
